Stardust Promotion’s boys group collective is known as EBiDAN, an acronym for Ebisu Gakuen Danshibu (恵比寿学園男子部). The collective’s name is inspired by the company’s headquarters in the Ebisu area of Tokyo. In 2014, Stardust Promotions named their group of young male trainees EBIDAN39&KIDS. Stardust began broadcasting the activities of EBiDAN39&KIDS on TV program EBiDAN, followed by EBiDANボンバー (EBiDAN Bomber), and finally EBiDANアミーゴ (EBiDAN Amigo).

Reo, Jean, Hayate, and Tomoya had already joined EBIDAN39&KIDS and appear in EBiDAN Episode #1. Koki joined the group in EBiDAN Episode #7. After THE EBiDAN REVENGE’s performance of ‘Over take’ at the ‘Like a Star’ release event in June of 2014, it was revealed that a new producer had been monitoring the progress of THE EBiDAN REVENGE and would select four trainees from the unit for a new dance and rockabilly crossover unit. This producer was Hisanaga Tahara, who would go on to eventually be the producer who formed SUPER★DRAGON. Hayate and Jean were selected as part of the initial four-person lineup and the unit was named DOQRO Dancebilly Project. Tahara selected Reo as an additional member shortly after. After the conclusion of 星男祭2014, it was revealed that DOQRO Dancebilly Project would be disbanded and cease further production. Instead, Tahara began a new project with the concept of mixing traditional Japanese elements and rock, titled 和とROCK Project (Wa to Rock Project). Tahara revealed the song ‘BIG DIPPER’ as the performance song for 和とROCK Project at EBiDAN39&KIDS’ second solo live, 星男祭2015 (Hoshiomatsuri 2015). Choreography for ‘BIG DIPPER’ was designed by kabuki actor Ichikawa Ukon (now Ichikawa Udanji III). Jean was added as a main vocalist for the rap lyrics, and Hayate was added as a main dancer. He chose Reo, Tsuyoshi, Jean, and Hayate through his experiences working with them on DOQRO Dancebilly Project and 和とROCK Project. He chose Sougo, Koki, Hyoma, Tomoya, and Raku after monitoring their other activities and determining their potential to develop. Tahara explained his vision for the new group in producer-oriented TV show ミュージックロード (Music Road), during episodes that aired on 2016.07.09 and 07.16. Tahara aimed to make SUPER★DRAGON a group that represents the cooler and masculine identities of EBiDAN and formed sub units FIRE DRAGON and THUNDER DRAGON out of the members’ natural age gaps to show two sides of the group. SUPER★DRAGON’s surprise debut was announced and their first single ‘HACK MY CHOICE’ was performed at 星男祭2015 on 2015.09.27, marking their debut anniversary date.

SUPER★DRAGON’s third solo live, SUPER MISSION ~Code Name: Stella~ was held on 2016.08.11. The concert follows a fictional story narrated by Raku that puts the members in the role of a special task force in a world infected with a new strain of virus called D-virus. Jean finds an abandoned briefcase holding two mysterious vials of liquid while surveying which attracts the attention of Hayate in particular before everyone goes to lunch. The members go on to determine after lunch that only the development of a vaccine can rid the world of D-virus, but they then get a sudden call to investigate an area of infection. FIRE and THUNDER split up to search the area, and Tomoya is suddenly overtaken by a mysterious presence believed to be the virus. When Tomoya comes to, the members realize Hayate is missing. Hayate is seen having wandered off from the others and returned to the briefcase. When Hayate returns to the other boys, he immediately collapses and the members determine by a star tattoo on his arm that he has been infected with D-virus. Sougo reveals that the virus will kill an infected person within 24 hours of developing the tattoo. Raku reveals that he had returned before lunch to put the case away but noticed that Hayate had already taken one of the vials. A barely conscious Hayate manages to retrieve the vial from his pocket to reveal it is unused before the members are called to evacuate the area as it is contaminated by D-virus. The members decide not to evacuate and remain with Hayate recognizing that they will be infected as well and agree to die together. Raku becomes angry about the situation and smashes the vial that Hayate brought to them, thinking the contents were what infected Hayate with D-virus. However, the members realize that the vial contained a vaccine for D-virus. Sougo explains that one vial contained the virus while the other contained the vaccine, and in testing both of them to see which was the vaccine Hayate knowingly became infected, therefore attempting to sacrifice himself to save everyone. However, at the end of the concert, it is revealed that Raku purposefully smashed the vial containing the vaccine because he is patient zero of D-virus, as shown by a star tattoo on his hand, and he wished to continue to spread it all over the world. Raku is seen smashing the second vial containing the virus itself at the very end of the concert, thereby releasing it into the world. ~Code Name: Stella~ contained three new songs. THUNDER DRAGON revealed the song ‘GETSUYOUBI’ and FIRE DRAGON revealed the song ‘ARIGATO’ for the first time. SUPER★DRAGON also revealed a new group song, ‘hide-and-seek.’

SUPER★DRAGON’s fifth solo concert series, MYSTIC BOOK, took place on 2017.08.18 in Tokyo and 2017.08.27 in Osaka. The concert follows a loose plot about a special book that makes anything the members write in it manifest in real life. A segment of shuffle unit performances took place where Reo, Hayate, Koki, and Tomoya formed a temporary hip hop unit and performed the rap song ‘BIG BOY.’ Jean performed as a DJ for EDM song ‘CHALA-CHALA’ with Tsuyoshi, Sougo, Hyoma, and Raku performing as backup dancers. Jean incorporated the same laser gloves into his performance as Hyoma used on NUMBER 9 TOUR. THUNDER DRAGON performed an acapella version of ‘MIKAZUKI,’ and FIRE DRAGON held a taiko drum performance. Aside from special stages, MYSTIC BOOK is the first concert in which Koki, Hyoma, and Tomoya performed in ‘HACK MY CHOICE’ in roles that reflect their current positions, previously being performed by Tsuyoshi and Jean only. In the MYSTIC BOOK performance of ‘Pendulum Beat!’ while the two sub units dance toward one another in the opening to the song the first chanting of FIRE and THUNDER, respective to who is dancing, can be heard. This sets a precedent that still reflects how ‘Pendulum Beat!’ is performed today. MYSTIC BOOK was also the first time ‘Get Lite!’ by FIRE DRAGON was performed, having been developed by JUMI LITE, Yocke, and the FIRE DRAGON members in earlier episodes of ミュージックロード. Tsuyoshi and Jean are credited with writing the lyrics for the rap parts of the song, marking the first time a SUPER★DRAGON member wrote lyrics for a song that was released. At the end of the 2017.08.27 Osaka concert, it was announced that SUPER★DRAGON’s third CD single would be released in January of 2018.

SUPER★DRAGON participated in 星男祭2017 on 2017.08.25 as a special guest, performing ‘BAD BOY,’ ‘Mada’ Mada’,’ ‘INAZUMA’ (THUNDER DRAGON), ‘MIKAZUKI’ (FIRE DRAGON) and ‘ワチャ-ガチャ!’

On 2017.08.30, they began uploading a series of SUPER★DRAGON TV videos documenting a camping trip all the members took together earlier in the summer, titled SUPER★DRAGON TV #番外編 (Extra Volume). In part one, the members arrive at the campsite to find that there are five rules for the trip: the usage of electronic devices is prohibited during the entire trip, they must dance any time music is played, they cannot say anything that can’t be broadcast, they have to put their best effort into every part, and they must obey Reo at all times. Each member was given a black T-shirt displaying the group’s name in katakana, スーパードラゴン, across the front. They also each received a disposable camera for taking pictures throughout the trip, and special “member bonding” bracelets actually used to repel mosquitoes. Members split up into teams for buying food and making a fire to grill lunch. After the members reunite, they play in the river and eat lunch together. They chill a watermelon in the river bed and play a game to split the watermelon while blindfolded. Eventually, torrential rain forces them to retreat indoors to their sleeping quarters, where they set up their beds and play games. In the evening, the members split into FIRE and THUNDER teams to have a curry rice tasting battle. They cook curry rice at the campground kitchen and Tahara determines that both are tied for the best. After dinner, they participate in a letter relay in which each member writes a letter to another in succession. In Tsuyoshi and Jean’s letters, they brought up an often referenced fight between FIRE members and THUNDER members that took place between Road to Real 2016.12.10 in Hokkaido (FIRE) and 2016.12.11 in Sendai (THUNDER). Reo shared information that the two teams had a fight on a blog post in January 2017, and all members have said that the fight is now a funny memory and eventually brought them closer. The members fall asleep after the letter relay and are awoken to a game in which the members have to wake up and start dancing to various songs for breakfast money. Some lesser known songs played include Reo and Jinto’s EBiDAN39&KIDS duet ‘ステージ,’ Sougo’s NUMBER 9 solo stage ‘山手線ラップ,’ Tsuyoshi’s solo activities song ‘MAZE,’ and DOQRO Dancebilly Project’s ‘DreamerZ.’ Reo wins first place and receives 2500 yen, while Koki is last to start dancing and only receives 100 yen. After breakfast, the members reflect on their time together and the pictures taken on the disposable cameras are shown.

On 2017.09.16, Tsuyoshi participated in the Rakuten Girls Award 2017 Autumn/Winter fashion show, marking his first activity as a model. In September of 2017 龍の部屋 returned broadcasting to the LINE LIVE platform. As LINE LIVE ended service and purged all contents in March of 2023, most of this content is considered lost as of 2025. The second DRA FES concert commemorating the debut anniversary took place on 2017.10.09. The black スーパードラゴン T-shirt from the camping trip was sold as merchandise. On 2017.10.30, SUPER★DRAGON participated in THE STAR NEXTAGE music festival performing the opening stage for a lineup that included K-pop group Seventeen. To introduce SUPER★DRAGON to a new public audience, Hyoma made a blog post on 2017.09.19 introducing the group, with profiles of each member written in both basic Korean and Japanese. SUPER★DRAGON performed at the ESP music school festival on 2017.11.04 as temporary unit TAKADANOBABA★DRAGON consisting of Jean, Hayate, Sougo, Koki, Hyoma, Tomoya, and Raku. The temporary unit formed from the absence of Reo and Tsuyoshi due to conflicting schedules was named for the location of the ESP Music Academy.

On 2017.11.15, a special section on streaming platform Stardust Channel was opened where exclusive SUPER★DRAGON content could be streamed, titled AREA SD. This section required separate email registration alongside a regular subscription to Stardust Channel, and offered exclusive video contents and ticketing priority for members. It was announced that the upcoming third CD single would be titled ‘Monster!’ and would be the group’s first song with love-themed lyrics. Koki and Hyoma participated in BATTLE BOYS live showcase concert on 2017.11.20, performing a cover of PrizmaX’ ‘REBORN’ along with participating in trainee covers of SUPER★DRAGON songs. On 2017.11.27, SUPER★DRAGON released an official theme for chatting application LINE based on the aesthetic style of 1st Impact.

On 2017.12.05, the first episode of SOUL FLAG PROJECT began streaming on Stardust Channel’s AREA SD. In the beginning of the series, Tahara explains to the members that the upcoming release event tour, titled SOUL FLAG, will include a new project for fans to participate in. One member will be considered a FLAG bearer at each stop of the release event, and purchasing the CD at the event will allow fans to write a message to that member on a flag at the venue. The members suggested that the FLAG bearer of each location have a solo performance during the release event at their respective location, which was accepted by Tahara. The SOUL FLAG PROJECT video series aimed to document the creation of the members’ solo performances as well as the progression of the release event tour.

The music video for ‘Monster!’ was released on the group’s official Youtube channel on 2017.12.15. The SOUL FLAG release event tour started the next day on 2017.12.16 in Hokkaido, where ‘Monster!’ was performed for the first time. Hyoma was the FLAG bearer for that day and performed ‘夢で逢えたら’ (Yume de Aetara) for the first time as a solo performance. The next release event was 2017.12.24 in Tokyo, where ‘City Noise’ was performed for the first time. Reo was the FLAG bearer for that day and performed a dance solo incorporating breakdance and acrobatic moves while wearing a Santa suit to commemorate Christmas Eve. The next release event was 2018.01.13 in Hiroshima. Tsuyoshi was the FLAG bearer for that day and performed ‘SOUL FLAG’ for the first time as a solo while playing acoustic guitar. The next release event was 2018.01.14 in Fukuoka. Tomoya was the FLAG bearer for that day, performing a dance solo incorporating kendo. Tomoya trained with Reo, who had recently participated in a stage play incorporating kendo into its story. Tahara worked closely with the members to create a performance which would be distinct from Tomoya’s kendo-inspired performance in NUMBER 9 TOUR and show his improvement as a dancer. The next release event was 2018.01.20 in Sendai. Raku was the FLAG bearer for that day and performed a cat-themed animation dance. Raku trained with Jean to develop the choreography. The next release event was 2018.01.27 in Osaka. Hayate was the FLAG bearer for that day and performed a dance solo incorporating krumping. The next release event was 2018.01.28 in Nagoya. Sougo was the FLAG bearer for that day, performing a train-themed rap based on Nagoya’s Meitetsu line. At the end of the performance, the other 8 members appeared on stage to participate in the choreography.

On 2018.01.29, a special photoset was sold of only Reo in order to commemorate his birthday. This began the tradition of selling a solo member photoset on every member’s birthday, which continues to this day.

The first televised performance of ‘Monster!’ took place on morning TV program おはスタ (Ohastar) on 2018.01.29. On 2018.01.31, the CD single ‘Monster!’ was released, which was celebrated by the Tokyo SOUL FLAG event taking place on release day. There was no FLAG bearer for the day as the event took place on a weekday and was subject to a shortened event time during evening hours. ‘Monster!’ reached #1 on the Oricon Daily Chart and #3 on the Oricon Weekly Chart. The next stop on the SOUL FLAG tour was 2018.02.03 in Tokyo. Jean was the FLAG bearer for this day and performed his EDM solo ‘CHALA-CHALA’ as a DJ. He incorporated sound samples provided by the other members. The next release event took place on 2018.02.04 in Saitama, where ‘SOUL FLAG’ was performed as a group for the first time. Koki was the FLAG bearer on that day, being the last member to take the role and concluding the SOUL FLAG PROJECT member flag event. Koki performed ‘AIKOTOBA’ for the first time as his solo performance. Two additional events took place on the tour, branded SOUL FLAG RETURNS. The first release event of this series took place on 2018.02.10 in Chiba. The second release event of this series took place on 2018.02.11 in Kobe. A flag for SUPER★DRAGON was placed at each venue for audience members to write messages on for the entire group. It was announced that both the member flags and the SUPER★DRAGON flags will be utilized at the upcoming 6th solo concert tour, titled HAZARDSCHOOL 0.

SUPER★DRAGON released their first official photobook, titled ‘Heads or Tails,’ on 2018.03.16. Shooting for the photobook took place at Warehouse Kawasaki, a multi-story game arcade designed to look like the inner portion of Kowloon Walled City. Themes of the design included cyberpunk and dystopia. A special version of the photobook purchased at HMV featured an alternative cover, which was a book flap that could be removed to reveal the original cover. SUPER★DRAGON held a special event at HMV to commemorate the release of the book. Warehouse Kawasaki closed in November of 2019, so unfortunately it is no longer possible to visit the shooting location.

The 6th solo live tour, HAZARDSCHOOL 0, was SUPER★DRAGON’s first hall tour, taking place at seated performance halls across the country instead of live houses or other standing venues. Before HAZARDSCHOOL 0 began, staff made an announcement on the official homepage that it would no longer be allowed to use commercially produced lightsticks as a light-based support item. The first generation of SUPER★DRAGON’s official lightstick was sold as concert merchandise, and audience members were limited to the new personalized lightstick or the NUMBER 9 TOUR light bangle for light-based support. The tour started on 2018.03.24 in Osaka. Before the tour video began, a teaser video was posted on the group’s official Twitter account that hinted at a collaboration between SUPER★DRAGON and M!LK. In fact, HAZARDSCHOOL 0 followed a parallel story with M!LK’s spring 2018 hall tour. HAZARDSCHOOL 0 follows an otome game-style plot that introduces Ryuuzaki High School, a dilapidated school for delinquent youth that has not had a female student in years due to its rough conditions. The name “Ryuuzaki” means Dragon Hills. In contrast, M!LK’s spring tour introduced Ushimaru Gakuen, a prestigious private school for the wealthiest students. Both plots follow familiar otome game tropes: SUPER★DRAGON members uphold the archetype of the bad boy, while M!LK members uphold the archetype of the perfect prince. Members of each group were portrayed as students of their respective schools, and the story begins with an unknown female protagonist joining one of the schools as a transfer student. The tour dates aligned so that the two group’s concerts fell on the same weekend at the same locations, allowing or even encouraging fans to attend both group’s concerts. In the case of SUPER★DRAGON, the protagonist joins Ryuuzaki High. The first VTR story introduces the protagonist as the first female transfer student to the school in a long time, and introduces the members in their respective roles. The second VTR story navigates how the only female student manages attending the school. The boys opt to all leave the classroom so that she can change her clothes for gym class in privacy. The boys also help her with cleaning the classroom after noticing that the accumulated mess is too much for her to tackle by herself. During class, the protagonist notices that all the boys are sleeping through a lesson she finds difficult. Some of the boys wake up and correct the teacher that some of the answers are incorrect, telling the protagonist that the class is too easy for them. The protagonist concludes that despite their rough exteriors, the boys seem to be considerate at heart, and she admits she would like to get to know them better. After school, however, she meets with M!LK members on the street who introduce themselves as Ushimaru Gakuen students and usher her away to their school. The VTR scene fades out while a person dressed in black steals the SOUL FLAG flag from the actual stage. In a VTR scene, Tomoya and Koki notice that the flag has been stolen and blame Ushimaru Gakuen for stealing the transfer student away. They call Hyoma, and then the three members appear on stage to perform the unit song ‘Cross Counter’ for the first time. This is followed by Reo, Tsuyoshi, and Jean performing the unit song ‘ゲラゲラ’ for the first time, and finally Hayate, Sougo, and Raku performing the unit song ‘NICHIYOUBI’ for the first time. After the unit songs, a VTR scene reveals that unknown masked assailants have captured both the flag and the transfer student. ‘夢で逢えたら’ is also performed as a duet between Tsuyoshi and Hyoma for the first time. The members brought their individual flags from the SOUL FLAG release event tour and placed them on the stage for the concert ending, where ‘Endless Dance’ was performed for the first time. ‘Endless Dance’ is one of the first 9-member SUPER★DRAGON songs to feature Jean on singing parts. It was announced at the end of the concert that a collaborative cafe would run and that the 4th CD single would be released in August of that year.

‘Endless Dance’ was introduced at HAZARDSCHOOL 0 as another element of the collaborative nature of the tour. M!LK also introduced a new song at their spring tour, titled ‘Goin’ Down.’ It was initially noticed that both songs sound similar and follow the same melody, with lyrics, vocal timing, and arrangement differing. It was later revealed that playing both songs on top of one another creates one blended song, with differences in vocal timing and arrangement allowing the lyrics and music to blend and create a new, complete song sung by both groups. A blended version of the song was never officially released. M!LK’s song ‘Goin’ Down’ was eventually released after member changes, while the song was performed at the spring concerts by the original lineup. It is widely believed that a future duo concert of both groups was to be held in order to finish the plot of the battling high schools, leading to the performance of the blended song being revealed through the concert, but the departure of M!LK’s main vocalist from the group and subsequent major shifts in direction likely led to the idea being scrapped. Nonetheless, Ryuuzaki High has continued its life as a common concert theme to this day, particularly for DRA FES.

On 2018.04.04, the first broadcast of SUPER★DRAGON’s first member-hosted radio show, SUPER★DRAGONのスパドラジオ (Supadoradio) aired. SUPER★DRAGON’s first magazine cover feature was for the June issue of Monthly Audition released on 2018.05.01. The members wore their ‘Monster!’ stage outfits for the cover. On 2018.05.19, Tsuyoshi and Jean took part in Rakuten Girls Award 2018 Spring/Summer as models, marking the start of Jean’s activities as a model. Tsuyoshi also had a supporting role in movie and drama series ‘兄友’ (Anitomo, My Brother’s Friend) starring Ryusei Yokohama. Tsuyoshi played the older brother of the main character, Mai, who is somewhat ambivalent to the idea of his sister dating his friend, played by Yokohama. ‘Monster!,’ ‘HAZARDSCHOOL 0,’ and ‘兄友’ represent SUPER★DRAGON’s first venture into incorporating more teenage themes such as dating and romance into their produced works as the members matured.

It was announced that SUPER★DRAGON’s 4th CD single would be titled ‘SWEET DEVIL’ and that a release event tour to promote it would be held in July and August of 2018. ‘SWEET DEVIL’ was the opening song for drama series ‘覚悟はいいかそこの女子。’ (Are You Ready? Hey You Girl!). The drama began airing on 2018.06.11. The music video for ‘SWEET DEVIL’ was released on 2018.07.08. The B-side track ‘Ringing, Love’ was first streamed on スパドラジオ on 2018.07.11. In order to promote the release of ‘SWEET DEVIL,’ SUPER★DRAGON held a release event tour in July and August of 2018 starting in Fukuoka on 2018.07.15. ‘SWEET DEVIL’ was performed for the first time at the first stop of the release event tour. ‘SWEET DEVIL’ was heavily promoted by a large billboard ad in Harajuku’s Takeshita Street and an advertising truck which was driven through Harajuku and Shibuya. The members visited both the ad and the truck in SUPER★DRAGON TV #41. Karaoke chain Big Echo hosted a collaboration room in which themed drinks could be served and special unreleased footage could be seen on the television inside the room. Additionally, a separate collaboration cafe called ‘Hangout SD’ was hosted by event space Area Q from 2018.08.02 to 08.27. SUPER★DRAGON members designed drinks and food items that could be ordered, and two special broadcasts of スパドラジオ were recorded at the Hangout SD cafe on 2018.08.13 to air on 2018.08.22 and 08.29. ‘SWEET DEVIL’ was released on 2018.08.01, reaching #3 on the Oricon Daily Chart and #5 on the Oricon Weekly Chart.
